PROVIDENCE, RI — After a more than yearlong closure due to the cooranvirus pandemic, the people's house is finally reopening. The Rhode Island State House will partially reopen to the public starting June 1, Gov. Dan McKee announced Tuesday. The decision to reopen was a joint one between top state officials, McKee's office said, including the Speaker of the House, Senate President, Secretary of State, lieutenant governor and general treasurer. Starting June 1, the State House will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. All visitors will be asked to wear a mask while in common areas, regardless of vaccination status, and will have a temperature check upon entry. All visitors will be required to sign in. Visors will be allowed to go into common areas, though certain wings will be roped off for health, safety and security reasons, McKee's office said. Also starting June 1, wedding and wedding photo appointments will resume. Tours and other scheduled visits will resume based on the discretion of the office operating them. Each office will individually decide whether to continue remote work for employees or return to in-person work.
