Parolee Charged With Elder Abuse At Palo Alto Train Station

PALO ALTO, CA — Palo Alto police arrested a parolee in connection with an assault and robbery of an elderly man at a downtown train station last Friday. Jesse Clay Camper III, who was on active parole for a prior robbery conviction, was charged with robbery and elder abuse, both felonies, along with a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. Police said Camper, a 34-year-old Oakland resident, assaulted a victim who was in his 70s at the 95 University Avenue train station and then stole his backpack around 1:41 a.m. Camper resisted arrest when approached by an officer a few hours later outside of a 7-Eleven on Waverley Street, police claimed. Police said that Camper was having difficulty breathing after being placed in control holds and a safety restraint device by officers. Camper was transported to a local hospital and given a medical clearance for incarceration, police claimed. The victim was not injured, according to police, but Camper no longer possessed the backpack at the time of his arrest. Camper was also placed on parole violation at the direction of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
