Description
MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Village Board approved a boundary agreement with the Village of Orland Park at its Monday board meeting.
"In the past, the village has maintained boundary agreements with each of its neighboring communities," Director of Economic and Community Development Alan Zordan said.
Boundary agreements serve as consistent planning tools, and is an excellent example of intergovernmental cooperation, Zordan said.
In the agreement, the boundary line is set at Interstate 80; with Orland Park to the north and Mokena to the south of the line.
Zordan said the agreement provides for cooperation between the two communities regarding any Will County land developments that may occur. The agreement also encourages both towns to work together to promote economic development in the corridor, Zordan said. The towns already do this through the Chicago Southland Interstate Alliance.
Zordan said the agreement also allows for the previously approved completion of the final 8 units of the Smith Crossing project in Orland Park, which is on the north side of I-80.
The agreement will run for 20 years, according to board documents. Orland Park already approved the agreement.
"This is basically the same agreement we've had for years and years and years," Mayor Frank Fleischer said.
