LAKE COUNTY, IL — The coronavirus positivity rate has dipped to its lowest point in Lake County. Currently, the seven-day rolling average for the positivity rate is 1.6 percent and has been steadily dropping in recent weeks, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health statistics. In comparison, at the end of June 2020 and early July 2020, when much of the state saw a brief summer reprieve from the pandemic, Lake County recorded its lowest positivity rate for 2020 at 2.9 percent. The state health department uses a seven-day rolling average to determine the positivity rate, which has been a key metric in determining whether to reopen businesses and create specific mandates throughout the pandemic. So far, 38.35 percent of Lake County residents are fully vaccinated. Across Illinois, 40.12 percent of residents are fully vaccinated, according to the IDPH.
