ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a knife-wielding driver, a bicycle theft, a dog bite, missing medication, fraud, DUIs and stolen property. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Knife-wielding driver A bicyclist told police that he was riding on Spring Road when a man honked at him and displayed a knife about 4 p.m. Thursday. The driver said he honked his horn at the bicyclist, who he said was weaving in the roadway. He alleged the bicyclist reached into his car, so the driver took out a folding knife and said he was calling the police. Neither person wished to file complaints. Bicycle theft A witness saw a suspect steal a blue Schwinn bicycle from a garage about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of South Monterrey Avenue. A juvenile was found in Villa Park and taken into custody. He was charged with theft and released to his stepmother. Dog bite A man told police that his dog was bitten by another dog about 3 p.m. Friday as they passed a house near Berkley and Montrose. Both the man and his dog suffered bite wounds and were evaluated by a medic. The case was referred to DuPage County Animal Control. Missing medication A resident in the 900 block of Hillcrest Avenue told police that he found one of his medication bottles empty and another bottle missing. The theft happened between Tuesday and Thursday. The victim declined to authorize an investigation. Retail theft A witness saw two suspects fill a shopping basket with bottles of liquor and leave without paying at 7 a.m. Thursday at CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave. They entered an older Chevrolet Caprice, which was occupied by two other suspects. The first suspect in the store was described as a 30-year-old white woman with long dirty blond hair and wearing a light green hooded jacket, sweatshirt and camouflage print leggings. The second one was described as a 6-foot black man with a thin build and wearing a black face mask, black hooded sweatshirt, black shorts and black shoes. Two men were seen stealing an unknown quantity of cosmetic items about 6 p.m. Thursday at CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave. The men ran away north on Addison Avenue to Grantley Avenue. The first suspect was described as black, 6 feet, having a large build and wearing a dark puffy jacket, a yellow baseball cap and a blue duffel bag. The other man was described as white or Hispanic, 20 years old and having black hair. Two people stole several bottles of laundry detergent about 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Jewel-Osco, 153 E. Schiller St. They left in a white Ford Crown Victoria. One of the suspects was described as a man, having dark skin, and wearing a blue T-shirt and a black baseball cap. The second suspect was described as a woman, having light skin, and wearing a tank top, pink long pants and black shoes with white soles. Fraud A man entered the showroom at Larry Roesch Chrysler, 200 W. Grand Ave., about noon Friday and asked to view two cars he was interested in buying. He gave personal information that was later found not to be valid. He left the dealership riding a black bicycle east on Grand Avenue. Officers checked the area, but were unable to find the man. He was described as black, in his 30s, and wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, cargo pants and a gray mask. Stolen property Otha L. McClendon, 55, of Chicago, was arrested at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at York and Wrightwood on a Park Ridge Police Department warrant and on charges of possession of stolen property, driving with a suspended license, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper use of a phone while driving. He was released to the Park Ridge police. DUIs Dori Ramirez, 28, of Elgin, was arrested about 1 a.m. Friday at York and Eggleston on charges of DUI and improper lane usage. She was released on bond. A multi-vehicle crash took place about 10 p.m. Saturday at Roosevelt and York. One of the drivers was found to be drinking and driving. He was taken by medics to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Charges are pending his discharge from the hospital. Yesenia Lopez-Martinez, 33, of Villa Park, was arrested about 12:15 a.m. Saturday at North and Villa on charges of DUI, no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured vehicle and improper lane usage. She was released on bond. Dustin Cullins, 33, of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Robert Palmer on charges of DUI (drugs), possession of drug paraphernalia, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was released on bond. Driving violations Akira Roberts, 23, of Chicago, was cited about 10 p.m. Thursday at Larch and North on charges of driving with a suspended license, marijuana possession by a driver and speeding. She was released on bond. Katherine Freeman, 19, of Villa Park, was cited about 9 p.m. Friday at Park and Poplar on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device as required and disobeying a stop sign. She was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
