Description

Press release from Mentor Public Library : May 25, 2021 Did you know that a young woman who lived in Lake County served as a Union spy by request of none less than President Abraham Lincoln? You can learn about this woman (whose name was Elizabeth Stiles, by the way) and more like her when we host the Women Spies in Ohio program at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 7. A speaker from the Lake County History Center will guide you through this secret world of subterfuge. These brave women served from the Revolutionary War to the World Wars. But who were they and what are their stories? This program will be hosted via Zoom, and you need to register to get the link. You can sign up online or call us at (440) 257-2512. Visit the library's YouTube page for more programs about local history, including our Civil War series with James A. Garfield National Historic Site.
