Description
Semi-pro multi-instrument (mid-40s) seeking jam band for improv live performances. Set up, call the key, chord progression (or not) and go. Thinking funk/soul, neo-jazz, maybe some chill rock - really just fun-to-play music that entertains a crowd and keeps the bar happy. No covers unless we fall into a hook by happy accident.
Instruments, in descending order of ability - guitar, bass, keys, drums, percussion. All gig-able equipment. Can do supporting vocals.
After a long hiatus from playing live I'm looking to meet local musicians and have fun again. My performance experience includes supporting acts for Turin Brakes, Franz Ferdinand, The Darkness in euro arenas. Club dates throughout NYC and London for over a decade. Some session work for TV.
No rehearsals wanted, except maybe a meetup session at a bar where we can then play. :) Again, more interested in pure improv in front of an audience - not building original songs or covers.
Any venues out there have something like this going? Any bartenders (and musicians, obviously) reading this want to start something up? The idea is to be inclusive, getting people from different backgrounds together to create some business for the bar.
ALSO, I am happy to sit in with your existing jam band if you want to add a certain uncertain element. :)
Again, I'm just looking to meet musicians and have some fun here - not expecting to be paid unless it becomes regular.
My influences & current vibe - Stevie Wonder, African rumba / soukous, cloud rap, Kamasi Washington, Tom Misch, Jacob Collier, Tribe, Viper, DOOM, Sergio Mendes/ all bossa nova music, Courtney Barnett, Kurt Vile, Brand New Heavies, theme songs to 1980s action-comedy films.
