Description

Join us on June 3 at 6 p.m. for Joseph M. Bagley with "Boston's Oldest Buildings and Where to Find Them." Register for free at: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_sproNRZASnKAaWseQYp9WA As Boston approaches its four-hundredth anniversary and sees new waves of real estate development, it is remarkable that the city retains and maintains its historic character. The story of where, why, and how that happened is now being told in "Boston’s Oldest Buildings and Where to Find Them." The fifty buildings featured in this book all pre-date 1800 and illustrate Boston’s early history. Beginning with a map of the buildings’ locations and an overview of the historic preservation movement in Boston, the new book looks at the fifty buildings in order from oldest to most-recent. The buildings span multiple uses, from homes to churches and warehouses to restaurants. Each chapter features a building, a narrative focusing on its historical significance, and the efforts made to preserve it over time. Don’t miss Bagley’s illustrated presentation followed by discussion with Curt DiCamillo and audience Q+A. In partnership with the State Library of Massachusetts.
