Description

Hey there bluegrass fiddler! We are an experienced bunch of pickers looking to add those lonesome sailing fiddle lines to our bluegrass tunes. We play a wide variety of classic fiddle tunes, BG Standards (Bill Monroe, Doc Watson etc), more modern/ jammy covers (Greensky Bluegrass, String cheese, Grateful Dead, etc) and original compositions (both tunes and songs). Looking for some of that classic double-stop “chucking” rythym as well as someone willing and wanting to step up and send a soaring melody up to third position ;) You don’t need to be able to sight read or anything (apparently Vassar Clemmens couldnt even tell you what notes he was playing) but we do want to be able to have thoughtful and intelligent musical conversations about structure etc... so please have a decent affluency with common shared musical language (Nashville Numbers, Modes etc.). Hope that this resonates with somebody... Even if you are simply a classic trained violinist who enjoys acoustic/bluegrassy music, we could work with that if you’re playing in tune and able to have a decent musical conversation. Plenty of slower/sadder/sentimental songs that could use a meaty/emotional vibratto-heavy violin on them... So, there’s plenty to experiment with, in a wide tempo and emotional range. So, if youre still reading, reach out! we’re playing every week: Guitar, Banjo, Upright Bass, Mando, and Washboard w/ 3 & 4 part harmonies. Originals and covers... we end up playing a lot of the Old and In the Way and rootsy Grateful Dead catalog, being Dead Heads.... Lets make some music! Also, just throwing this out there, still reading and not a fiddle player? Think you can add musically to the idea we’re talking about? well by all means, reach out. we’re a bunch of young 30-somethings if that matters to you. Yes, we party. Yes, we take the music seriously and treat it professionally. Please do the same for the latter. Anyways, cheers! please reach out with any questions.
