Description
Researchers at the UC Davis MIND Institute are currently studying different patterns of brain development in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as well as children with typical development. The BRAIN study is focused on evaluating children with large head or brain size relative to height.
Who can participate?
-Children ages 2-3.5 years old
-Are typically developing OR have diagnosis or strongly suspected ASD
-Must understand English
What does the study involve?
-Two to three visits to the UC Davis MIND Institute in Sacramento to complete various assessments of your child’s development, medical history
-An evening visit to complete an MRI scan during natural sleep at the Imaging Resource Center in Sacramento
-One visit to the Center for Mind and Brain in Davis
-Families will be asked to return to the UC Davis MIND Institute for follow-up visits one and two years after the first visit
What else can be expected?
-A brief letter of information about your child’s performance on the behavioral assessments
-A copy of the MRI brain scan
-A copy of the MRI report will be provided to your child’s physician, with your consent
-Reimbursement for mileage, convenient parking, compensation for participating in each visit, childcare during visits, and other accommodations to make your participation as easy as possible
