Hey — Wanna Help Me Start a 90's Alt-Rock Cover Band?

Description

Hey, what's up? I'm a drummer. And I want to start a '90s alt-rock cover band. I've been in a ton of bands over the years, starting in Milwaukee in the actual '90s (I was the founding drummer for a well-regarded local band you *might* have heard of, maybe?). In the last 12-13 years, I've traveled the country a lot, and picked up bands here and there. But now I'm home, and I've been hoping to get another gig going. And I have something specific in mind. I've had the same idea for a while, I guess. A band that plays some of the more well-known '90s songs. Your Nirvanas, Foo Fighters, Soundgardens and Alices in Chains. I like that stuff just fine. Love a lot of it, in fact. But I also love all the OTHER stuff. The one-hit wonders. The follow-up hits or semi-obscure acts that you may not think of immediately. Bands like Toadies. Screaming Trees. Folk Implosion. Tripping Daisy. Chalk FarM. Green Apple Quickstep. Dexter Freebish. Harvey Danger. Nerf Herder. Local H. Geggy Tah. Hum. Eels. Dinosaur Jr. Cornershop. The Caulfields. Kula Shaker. Superdrag. Ass Ponys. New Radicals. Archers of Loaf. Yellowcard. The Nixons. The Refreshments. Fastball. Seven Mary Three. Candlebox. Nine Days. Our Lady Peace. Cake. Marcy Playground. Jesus Jones. Soup Dragons. And so on. I just have MAD love for the whole alt-rock family tree, and especially the "forgotten" tunes. The kind of songs that make people stop in their tracks, and say, "Whoa! I haven't heard that song in like forever!" Y'know, the songs that you didn't just hear last Thursday, but that are instead tied to a much more specific time period. The ones people haven't thought about in awhile, and that will really take them back. Since I'm the drummer, I'm pretty much looking for everything else: • A lead player that can handle Stone Gossard's high notes, and Kim Thayil's time signature changes. • A rhythm guitarist who plays everything from Liam Gallagher's 12-string beauty, to Pat Smear's chunky palm-muting. • A bassist who's just as happy playing the quarter-note root tones on Green Day's "She" as they are delivering the sinewy counter-melody of "In The Meantime" by Spacehog. • Very likely even a utility player who can take both the keys part on The Verve Pipe's "Photograph," and the Vibra-Slap on whatever Cake tune we all like. Age, gender and background are unimportant. The only thing I'm looking for is a love for this music, and a desire to help me do it justice. Although, vocal ability is a HUGE plus, since ideally I’d like to split up the leads for the sake of versatility, and also render harmony and backups where called for. And if you’re a gal, and would be able to help us do some lady-led stuff like Hole, The Cardigans, Belly, Letters to Cleo, K’s Choice, Whale, and The Breeders, that would be amazing. I’d also be thrilled if you had a practice space or were willing to pitch in on one, since I don’t really have the ability to host rehearsals. As for me, I've been playing since I was 10 — so, about 35 years. I have a Roland TD-17KVX V-Drums kit that’s perfect for practice and smaller gigs. It also has the ability to import samples, so it's great for triggering loops and background effects. I also just ordered a full-size acoustic kit yesterday for when it’s time to start looking at gigs. If you're interested, I'd love to talk with you some more. I also have some recordings of my old bands I can send you if you'd like to give ME a listen. Thanks for reading. Hope to hear from you!
