Early Rider / Intermediate Rider Skills Summer Camp- ages 5-11 Early Rider / Intermediate Rider: Handling / Control / Group Riding Etiquette Class Half Day Summer Camp: Ages 5-11 If you have any doubts about your child’s riding ability, this is an excellent class. I guarantee you will see a change in their approach, ability, knowledge, and desire to ride. This class includes riders of mixed riding ability; it is not a learn to pedal camp (click here for Learn to Pedal). Our focus is further developing the necessary skills the kids need when riding. We have a variety of drills and courses along with adaptive techniques that build excellent handling and control of the bicycle. Having situational awareness and control are the primary safety mechanisms to prevent accidents. Class operates in a safe, enclosed parking lot as a learning environment, but we use this setting to create a variety of courses with a variety of drills and adaptive techniques so children can practice a wide range of skills safely based on the child's individual abilities. It's fun and we cover a lot. It is focused time spent riding that develops a skilled rider. In previous classes, we have tracked distances and found that some ride up to 50 miles during the camp week. Learning to ride and navigating around other riders on closed courses increases teamwork, control, handling, and awareness. These skills needed to ride in the real world. Riding off-site is not the primary focus of this class, but depending on the group we will occasionally go for group rides towards the end of the week to practice what we have learned and expose the new riders to why what they've learned is important. Our goal of these classes is for kids to be able to handle and control their bicycles in a group environment (whether with family or other kids). Your child may or may not be ready to move up to the next level of Pedaling Minds classes after completing this one. We have had kids repeat this course three times because the sessions are fun and are progressive, depending on where the child starts at the beginning of the week. In this camp, we welcome riders aged 5-11 who know Early Rider Prerequisites: Can start on their own and pedal -- not new to pedalingAbility to stop -- whether on command or struggling to stop, but have an understanding how to stop. We meet the kids at their level with individual drills. Has been to a learn to pedal/beginner week long summer campIntermediate Rider General Prerequisites: This camp is also designed for those who know how to pedal and are on their way to becoming confident bike riders, but need situational control, navigating tight turns, riding while making a hand signal, practice riding with others in a tight group, safety knowledge. These are kids who ride on occasion or often but need further practice - tight turns, changing gears, single file riding, emergency braking, accelerating, navigating descents, and so on. Class Min: 5 Kids Class Max: 10 Kids Waitlist available What KIDS should bring to camp: Bike -A bike in good working order, It's a good opportunity for us to safety check your child’s bike and see what they are riding at home and make suggestions and adjustments if needed. Helmet (if you have one) - They will receive a helmet fit. Wearing a helmet is mandatory during this camp for any activity on the bike. You will receive a more comprehensive list of what to bring as the camp approaches. Covid Policies: We will enforce CDC guidelines and should those change we will update accordingly. We plan to have a hand washing station on site, and possibly our own porta john that will be cleaned and locked each night. Right now, we are being told we have access to inside the church for bathroom use, but this can change. Both coaches are fully vaccinated and we will be riding outdoors. Social distancing will be maintained when kids are on break and seated in their chairs. During some drills, it is impossible for us to work with your kids individually without close contact, according to the CDC guidelines, masks for kids is still recommended by the CDC, but during summer while working hard riding we know this can be tough on the child, we will ask kids to wear masks at other times like using the bathroom inside the church, but we will also be lenient while riding and leave this to parent discretion about what they prefer their child to do. If your child is visually sick, please keep them at home. For more Information / Questions: Visit: www.Pedalingminds.org Ph:(720) 828-5936
