Description

Althea Center honors Memorial Day with a special ceremony to bless & release the losses experienced over the last year during the pandemic. Join Althea Center for Engaged Spirituality for our Sunday Gathering! When: Sunday, May 30th, 10:30 - 11:45 am MT *Doors will open at 10:15 am & RSVP is appreciated, but not required. Everyone has lost something in the last year: a loved one, a job, time, routine. While the year may have brought dark experiences, there is always the light of blessing within them. We invite you to release whatever you desire to set yourself free through our burning bowl ceremony. Bring photographs, mementos, sacred objects, or anything you feel called to help honor, bless, and release the loss of the last year during the Pandemic. (These will be placed on our altar to be blessed throughout the service.) Through the powerful and symbolic release of the burning bowl ritual, you can let go of anything holding you back. Althea's Prayer Partners will assist the congregation through this special gathering and ceremony, with beautiful music provided by Sandra Wong and friends.  And what more fitting weekend than Memorial Weekend to launch our Althea Visioning Project preparing Althea’s community for its second century. Sure to be another memorable Sunday at Althea. Please join us! Sandra Wong Sandra’s focus with her music has shifted from being an isolated striving for technical perfection to a focus on connecting other people and cultures through music as a way to build community and express our common humanity. Opening this door with an exploration of Irish, Old-time and Bluegrass music, her folk music journey has moved her into her current livelihood of teaching, performing, recording and collaborating with other musicians from a diverse range of musical genres. In 1999, Sandra opened another door when she discovered a 14th century Swedish folk instrument called the nyckelharpa and fell in love. This is a 16 stringed, keyed instrument played with a bow. It has become an integral part of her musical expression. Sandra has toured nationally and internationally as a solo artist and in collaboration with various musicians. She has appeared at numerous festivals and concert series. sandrawongmusic.com Additional: Childcare is not provided. Learn more about the Althea Center, our Sunday Gatherings, and upcoming classes: altheacenter.org Regarding pandemic guidelines, the latest message from the CDC states: Fully vaccinated people – those who are two weeks past their final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine – can stop wearing masks. And in most indoor settings, masking and social distancing are unnecessary. This would include the Althea Center. The Board of Althea is continuing to follow Colorado State and CDC guidelines, therefore, masks will not be required to be worn by fully vaccinated people inside our building. We will also remove the orange tape enforcing space between attendees. However, everyone should be respectful of individuals who may wish to continue wearing masks, keep socially distanced, and avoid hugs. If you have questions, please email Sarma at [email protected]. She will forward them to Board member Dr. Charlie Foster who works in the medical profession and received immediate CDC guidelines as they changed. He has been our guiding light to make tough decisions about Althean’s safety during this challenging time.
