Stephanie Block and Friends, String Sextet
Perennial White House favorite Stephanie Block, a New World Symphony Viola Fellow, has assembled an accomplished string sextet to perform Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night), Op. 4, and Brahms’ String Sextet No. 2 in G Major, Op. 36, a work that reveals the composer as a skillful contrapuntalism and heralds many of his later works. Transfigured Night, Arnold Schoenberg’s string sextet in one movement, was composed in just three weeks in 1899. It follows the form of a poem by Richard Dehme and explores the human psyche through beautifully enthralling music.
Praised as “exceptionally talented,” and a “virtuosic performer,” Stephanie Block holds a principal role in the New World Symphony and has performed often with several Chicago-area chamber groups. Musicians from the New World Symphony and other major symphonies will join Ms. Block in this special White House performance.
We encourage you to join us in person if you are comfortable doing so. Tickets are limited.
