A native of Rigby, Idaho, Jim didn’t graduate from the University of Idaho but his dedication and devotion to the Vandals has been such that he was welcomed into the Vandal family as an honorary member of the Alumni Association in 2009. Jim was inducted into the Vandal Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012 – an honor he listed as one of the greatest achievements in a lifetime of honors and awards bestowed on a man who had given selflessly over the years to his adopted school and hometown.Jim was frank when he admitted he first was enticed to service with Vandal Boosters, Inc. because he thought such a relationship would help foster business at Tri-State, where he was the general manager for a decade before buying Ambassador Auto on Third Street in Moscow. “The more I got involved with it… the more I realized how important it was to the economics of the Moscow community,” Jim shared when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.“I love athletics” he continued, whose service to Vandal Boosters ranged from helping put up the iconic I-Vandal signs around Moscow to serving as a National Booster Board president and literally, everything in between. Jim was instrumental in developing innovative fund-raising tools that included dividing volunteers into teams to compete to raise the most money to the popular 50/50 drawings that have added thousands to the Vandal coffers.Jim’s other accomplishments included: 1979 National Vandal Booster of the Year, Elsbeth Bush Distinguished Service Award in 2004, 2005 & 2008, Vandal Spirit Award in 2004 and President’s Special Service Award in 2005 & 2006. In 2017, the Latah County chapter decided to rename the Latah County Vandal Scramble to the Jim Anderson Memorial Vandal Scramble to honor Jim for his dedication and hard work in organizing the golf tournament over the years.
