Description

7th Annual Bluffton Juneteenth Festival “I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated States, and parts of States, are, and henceforward shall be free...”An excerpt taking from President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. The Bluffton MLK Observance Committee would like to invite you to come and commemorate the legal abolishment of slavery in the United States, the sacrifices of our African American Veterans, and the formidable resilience of our ancestors who endured the horrors of enslavement at our 7th Annual Juneteenth Celebration which will be held Saturday June 19th from 3-9 at The Burnt Church Distillery. Juneteenth is a celebration recognized across the country highlighting the official acknowledgement that slaves were forever to be considered freed men. The majority of those who were enslaved waited up during a watch night service for January 1, 1865 the day that they would finally be free, slaves in Texas didn’t get that news until June, and have since declared it a national holiday. Our Juneteenth celebration will not be a focus on resentment, but one of triumph. We have so many wonderful things to thank God for. There will also be a drum circle, gospel music, dance performances, Gullah storytellers, and more. We will have great food vendors, craftsman, and Artisans great fun and the understanding that our history be it painful to remember at times was shaped by the perseverance of a people dedicated to succeed under the promises of God. There will be a henna vendor, braiding vendor, .etc. This is a free event and concessions will be available for purchase. Bring your lawn chairs and your family and friends.
