PLYMOUTH, MA — A Plymouth man has won a fight against the town's bylaws to display a "Biden Is Not My President" sign in his front yard, reported CBS Boston. The town's attention was first directed to Joe Casieri's yard when he put up a sign that read "(Expletive) Biden," but it was taken down after 15 minutes. The issue raised from Casieri's political statements stems from Plymouth's bylaws that prohibit speech with offensive language and political signs left up for more than a week after an election. However, after the town told Casieri to take down the second sign, he contacted the ACLU, who sent the town a letter explaining why the bylaws were unconstitutional. "Everybody has the right to freedom of speech," Casieri told CBS Boston. "That's what this case was about. Everybody has the right whether it's left, right, middle." The letter from the ACLU convinced the town to work to update its bylaws to avoid freedom of speech violations while maintaining civility, said Plymouth Town Manager Melissa Arrighi. In the meantime, Casieri is allowed to keep the sign up. More information on Plymouth's bylaws can be found here.
