COLUMBIA, MD — Howard County government offices, courts, animal shelter, 50+ centers and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed in observance of the Memorial Day holiday Monday, May 31. Because there won't be any Monday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim or food scrap collection on Memorial Day, the county's holiday "slide" schedule will be in effect for the rest of the week. While county parks and the Roger Carter Community Center will be openMay 31, the county's department of recreation and parks' Cedar Lane and Schooley Mill Activity Rooms, Gary J. Arthur and North Laurel Community Centers, Kiwanis-Wallas Hall, Meadowbrook Athletic Center, Robinson Nature Center and county historic sites will be closed. The Howard County Library will be closed Monday, May 31, for Memorial Day. The library will reopen Tuesday, June 1, at 9 a.m. The Regional Transportation Agency (RTA) will operate on a "Sunday" schedule. The 9-1-1 Center, police and fire departments remain staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For emergencies, call 9-1-1; for non-emergencies, call 410-313-2200.
