SANTA MONICA, CA — The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed charges against a 27-year-old woman accused of shooting a man in an alley in Santa Monica last week, authorities said. Officers responded to a shooting investigation in the alley of the 2400 block of Ocean Park Blvd., just north of 24th Street, about 12:30 p.m. May 17, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. The victim and witnesses said the victim was pushing a stroller containing personal items in the alley when a vehicle drove past him, then reversed and hit the victim's stroller, causing all the items to fall and scatter on the ground, police said. The driver got out of the car and walked up to the victim as he was gathering his belongings, police said. The suspect said a few words to the victim, then shot him at close range. The suspect then got back in her car and drove away, police said. Officers and detectives with the Santa Monica Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division located the suspect in her vehicle May 18 at 7-Eleven, 630 Wilshire Blvd., authorities said. She was taken into custody without incident and detectives uncovered a loaded handgun without a make or model inside the car, police said. Tarra Kenay Sheffield, 27, was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office with assault with a firearm, assault with a semi-automatic firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. Her bail was set at $75,000. Sheffield is currently housed at Century Regional Detention Facility and her next court date is July 8 at LAX Superior Court. Anyone with information about the suspect or incident is urged to contact Santa Monica Police Detective Tavera at 310-458-2201, ext. 2256 or the Watch Commander at 310-458-2249.
