SANTA CLARA, CA —More than 3,000 Santa Clara residents lost power for several hours on Sunday afternoon after a vandalism attempt to steal a cable, according to Silicon Valley Power.
The outage was reported shortly after 4 p.m. and affected 3,631 customers in the the northeast area of the city.
Power was restored just before 7 p.m. In a tweet, Silicon Valley Power said the outage was caused by a "vandalism attempt at one of our transformers to steal the cable." The company said that copper wires are in the electric cable. No suspect has been identified.
