Firefighters Limit Damage In Carnegie Motorcycle Park Blaze

LIVERMORE, CA — Nearly three dozen firefighters from five different departments were able to minimize damage caused by a fire at the Carnegie Motorcycle Park Sunday afternoon, Alameda County Fire officials said on Monday. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time, Chief Brian Sheehan said, and damage was limited to a couple of fence posts after firefighters contained the fire to 2.6 acres of the park. The first reports of the fire were reported at 12:58 p.m. on Sunday and firefighters were able to clear the scene by 3:45 p.m., Sheehan said. Due to the steep terrain of the park, fire vehicles could not be used to battle the fire, which also required the use of a helicopter to help contain the blaze from the air, Sheehan said. Fighters from 10 units representing CalFire, Alameda County, Tracy, Camp Parks, and Livermore-Pleasanton were called to the scene, officials said. Sheehan said there was no evidence of what caused the fire. "We looked in the area and everything was completely incinerated from the point of origin and so you can't always point at what happened," Sheehan said Monday. "There was no broken glass or anything obvious that would have been natural cause and there were no reports of any individual dropping anything and so we can't say it was human in nature."
