Description
ELMHURST, IL — Two recently reported incidents in Elmhurst involving strangers offering rides to children have similarities.
The first incident was on May 14 in the 400 block of Huntington Lane. The second one was May 17 in the 300 block of East Church Street. They happened about three blocks from each other in an east central neighborhood.
In both, the suspect was described as a white man with black hair and wearing a black coat. He was said to be driving a gray sedan.
In the first incident, a 10-year-old boy was walking home when the man stopped to ask whether he needed a ride, according to a police news release. The child declined, and the man left without any further conversation, police said.
In the second case, a boy was offered a ride by a man after he fell off of his bicycle on his way to school. The boy declined. In this instance, police got a slightly more detailed description of the man, saying he was 30 to 50 years old and had short black hair.
In the second incident, the police did not issue a news release. Police have not publicly linked the cases.
