District 99 Students Earn Medals In National Spanish Exam

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — More than a dozen Downers Grove students earned medals for their performance on the National Spanish Exam. The awards were given as follows: Level 5 Silver Medal: August Balicki, Downers South Level 4 Silver Medal: Anika Canamedi and Taran Mellacheruvu, Downers North; Jessica Alcantara, Nirmal Nathan and Timothy Neumann, Downers South Level 4 Bronze Medal: Mikayla Cichy, Isabella Samsa and Megan Thompson, Downers North; Kaitlyn Steffgen and Emilia Swierzb, Downers South Level 3 Silver Medal: Helen Larkin, Downers North Level 3 Bronze Medal: Kirsten Anderson, Kaitlin Jeschke and Anabel Levan, Downers North The National Spanish Exams were given to students grades 6 through 12 between March 1 and April 10. "Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious," Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the National Spanish Examinations, said in a news release. Cessna-Buscemi added, "The exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 60,000 students participating in 2021."
