Description
FREEMONT, CA — Fremont fire officials said they would investigate the cause of a grass fire that burned some two acres Monday morning.
The fire, in the Stanford Avenue area of Fremont, was reported just after 4:15 a.m., according to Fremont Fire Department. The blaze was within the Mission Peak Regional Preserve.
Fire crews from Fremont, CAL Fire and East Bay Regional Parks contained the fire, despite challenges posed by steep terrain, officials said.
Because the fire broke out near a main trail and lacked a natural source such as a power line or lightning strike, it is being investigated as "suspicious" fire, authorities said.
The fire was declared under control late Monday morning.
