Description
AURORA, IL—A lot of people were out of jobs last year, stuck at home and hoping to remain safe and sound. But, Aurora Police Department Sergeant Michael Corrigan was hard at work—work that earned him the shared title of 2020 Kane County Officer of the Year.
Corrigan was a co-winner, along with Detective Sergeant Eric Kistler of the Bartlett Police Department and Officer Russell Nisivaco from the Elgin Police Department.
Corrigan was honored for his off-duty actions which ended up saving a life.
Aurora Police said that on July 30, 2020, Corrigan rescued a man from inside a burning house. While Corrigan won the high honor, the actions of two other Aurora Police Department officers were also praised.
Officers Jay Ellis and Bradley Vonhoff were nominated for actions they took on Feb. 19, 2020, in which they were able to pursue the offenders of a shooting. After calling their chase off, the offending vehicle continued on until it was involved in a fatal crash on the East side of Aurora.
The award was presented by the Batavia Moose Lodge during a small ceremony at monthly Kane County Chiefs of Police Association luncheon.
