COLUMBUS, OH — Since the Vax-a-Million lottery announcement, vaccination rates increased throughout Ohio, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Monday. "We made the decision to try this [lottery] and see what it would do," DeWine said. "We've been more than happy with the results." The Vax-a-Million lottery will see $1 million awarded to a randomly selected vaccinated Ohioan. The lottery will pick five winners in consecutive weeks. Ohioans need to opt into the lottery for a chance to win. The first winner will be announced Wednesday evening. The largest increase in vaccination rates has occurred among teenagers. Ohioans between the ages of 16 and 17 have seen a 94 percent increase in vaccination rates week-to-week, DeWine said. Ohioans 18 and 19 years old have seen a 46 percent increase. Ohioans 20 to 49 years of age have seen a 55 percent increase in vaccination rates.
