Description
Yesterday there was a frantic mother duck with 11 babies in the water. Mama was jumping on the sidewalk and then back in to the water. The tide was low and the babies could not get out because there is no ledge, rock, nothing to grip on to for them to get back on land.
Now mama is gone, but there are still 6 babies drifting along the wall and they can't get out and now Mama isn't protecting them. Do you have a kayak or a net or even a board so these babies can make their way back to land? They are too young to be fending for themselves. They need some urgent help today. Please rescue or pass along to someone who can. I looked for something when I was down there to put in the water for them and I couldn't find anything so please come prepared. They are drifting right at the edge of the walk where the sidewalk meets the water. Last time I saw them (less than an hour ago) they were between a white pavillion and the railroad that goes over the river, right before the children's play area.
I have notified the city and asked them to install some type of little ledge so animals don't get trapped this way-- the cement wall is impossible for them to scale if the tide is low. Even dropping in a boulder so there is some respite from having to constantly be swimming would save some animal lives. All along the walk there is simply no way for an animal to make its way back up to land, the cement wall has no ledges.
Thank you if you can help and if you can't help, please forward this to someone who might be able to rescue these ducklings.
