Authorities ID Cobb Jail Detainee Who Died In Custody

COBB COUNTY, GA — Authorities have named the man who died in Cobb County Jail custody over the weekend. The man — now identified as Brady Allen of Kennesaw— was brought into custody Saturday evening on criminal trespassing charges and was put in a holding cell for intake, according to Cobb sheriff's office spokesperson Saba Long. Long said the man "became destructive and combative" and attacked deputies, causing them injuries. Deputies tried to stop the attacks by using a stun gun on Allen, but Long said that didn't work. He was eventually restrained by deputies but was not cuffed, Long said. Allen's arrest warrant said he arrived uninvited at a home on Acworth Due West Road in Kennesaw around 4:30 p.m. Saturday and was told to leave. The homeowner saw Allen on a Ring doorbell camera, according to the warrant. Allen did not leave "and even went swimming in the victim's pool" before his arrest, the warrant said. The sheriff's office is awaiting a pathology report on Allen. "Given the detainee's aggressive behavior towards the deputies and medical staff and the sheer force with which he attacked them, there is reason to believe he may have been under the influence of a substance," Long said in a statement. Long said Allen was either being taken to the hospital or had already arrived there at the time of his death at 9:40 a.m. Sunday. Cobb Sheriff Craig Owens requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation conduct an initial investigation into Allen's death. Owens announced in January that all jail deaths would be investigated by the GBI. Next of kin were notified of Allen's death Sunday afternoon. No other information has been released. This is the second jail death under Owens' tutelage, which began in January. The first was the death of a male inmate April 29, a day after he attempted suicide.
