Michigan motorists pay 42 cents in state taxes and 18 cents in federal tax on a gallon of gas. If electric vehicles, which weigh far more than the average vehicle, surpass sales of gas powered vehicles, this will be reflected on road taxes collected.
There are over 7 million licensed drivers in Michigan paying an average of $420 in gas taxes a year. That's a lot of dough.
To recoup losses, the only possible way would be an increase in licenses fees.
