Press release from the Midstate Chamber of Commerce: May 23, 2021 The Board of Directors is a diverse group of individuals made up of business leaders from different sectors to provide oversight to the Chamber's program of work and set policy for our organization. Representative of our diverse membership, these dedicated individuals serve (2) 3-year terms. The Annual Meeting of the Members was held on May 12, 2021 – as a hybrid event via Zoom and in-person at Il Monticello where the slate of officers and directors was presented and voted upon. These students were chosen after a formalapplication was reviewed by our selection committee. The Sanford S. Shorr Education Award, is presented based on essentialcriteria of high character, service to community, school and others. Fundsraised for these awards are generated from the Chamber's annual golftournament. This year's winners are Humza Miyan from Orville H. Platt HighSchool, Karen Gomez from Francis T. Maloney High School, Garrison Kunstfrom Francis T. Maloney High School, and Mya Flis from Orville H. Platt HighSchool. The Hispanic Outreach Leaders in Action Committee Award is for agraduating Hispanic high school student. Funds raised for these awards aregenerated through H.O.L.A. fundraisers that are held throughout the year.This year's winners are Dominic Ponce from Orville H. Platt High School andAbigail Lespier from Francis T. Maloney High School. The fourth award is the Bruce H. Kannenberg & Jonal Laboratories, Inc.Education Award. This is a 4-year award for a Meriden resident graduatingfrom a Meriden Public School who will be pursuing a degree in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or Business. This year's recipientis Annie Patel from Francis T. Maloney High School. A fifth award, provided through the Frank A. and Charlotte G. YoungMemorial Fund, is an annual award for a Meriden high school student thatexcels in the field of science and/or math. The recipient Taspiya Aktar fromFrancis T. Maloney High School The Chamber Members and Board of Directors would like to congratulate allthe outstanding recipients on their achievements and extend their best wishesas these students continue their educational pursuits.
