By Editor, Times of San Diego May 23, 2021 Broadway San Diego's upcoming season, beginning in November, includes a return for Come From Away and the literary and film classic, To Kill a Mockingbird. The 44th season, set to begin last fall, had to be postponed due to the pandemic. It begins with Hairspray, directed by the Old Globe Theatre's former artistic director, Jack O'Brien, from Nov. 16-21. A one-night performance from a Cooking Channel favorite, Alton Brown Live, follows on Nov. 14, then My Fair Lady, from Nov. 30 – Dec. 5. The remainder of the 2022 schedule includes: The Simon and Garfunkel Story, Jan. 6The Band's Visit, a Tony Award winner for Best Musical, March 1-6Tootsie, April 12-17Rent, April 22-24Come From Away (which debuted at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2015), May 17-22Hadestown, another Best Musical winner, May 31-June 5Pretty Woman, July 26-31To Kill a Mockingbird, Nov. 29-Dec. 4In addition, Broadway San Diego has scheduled plays into 2023, including 1776 and Mean Girls. Performances take place at the San Diego Civic Theatre and the Balboa Theatre. Ticket subscriptions begin at $313.
