Darien Continues To See Drops In Virus Rate: County

DARIEN, IL — For the third week in a row, Darien saw an even lower weekly coronavirus rate increase, according to the DuPage County Health Department. As of Sunday, Darien had a total of 1,745 coronavirus cases, up nine from a week before, or a 0.5 percent increase. The previous week, the city saw a 0.7 percent increase in cases. The city's number of coronavirus deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 21. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but 2.1 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload. As of Sunday, Darien had 80.7 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, better than its neighbors. The figure compares to 85.3 in La Grange Park, 90.1 in DuPage County, 92.4 in Hinsdale, 93.4 in Elmhurst, 94.4 in Western Springs, 99.1 in Clarendon Hills, 100.8 in suburban Cook County, 103.7 in Burr Ridge and 117.9 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands). As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,375,808, up 0.9 percent from a week earlier. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 22,623. Nationally, 32.9 million people have caught the virus, up 0.7 percent from the week before. A total of 586,535 people have died from the virus in the United States.
