Join CRAG-VT on June 5th for our Summer Kick Off Event at Bolton Quarry! The day will include trail work, guest speakers, food, & climbing! Join CRAG VT on June 5th for our Summer Kick Off at Bolton Quarry!CRAG-VT is kicking off the 2021 summer climbing season with an all day event at Bolton Quarry. Come connect with fellow climbers and give back to our local crags! Please bring water, snacks, sturdy shoes, and appropriate attire for work and play. A huge thanks to our partners the Outdoor Gear Exchange, Halyard Brewing, Black Diamond & Tenaya for their generous sponsorship! Timeline of Events8 – 9 a.m.: Coffee & Bagels Social Hour Meet us at the Bolton Quarry parking lot for an hour of coffee, snacks and socializing as we gear up for our trail work projects! 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Stewardship Projects After a short safety briefing and overview of projects, we’ll break off into small groups, grab some tools, and head to high priority stewardship projects at various Bolton crags. Some examples include: Digging earthen water bars to control erosion on the trail up to the 82 CragRestaining the Kiosk at the Bolton DomeSidehilling sections of the trail to Terra IncognitaCreating a visual rock boundary at the base of the climbs at Lower WestRerouting a section of the trail at Upper WestRemoving graffiti at the Bolton DomeMuch more!Bring water, lunch, appropriate trail work clothing including closed toed shoes, and work gloves if you have them! 1 p.m. – Dusk: Climbing, Hanging & Eating! Following trail work, we will regroup for climbing! Test out demo shoes and chat with reps from Black Diamond and Tenaya. Need a partner for the day or for the season? We invite you to fill out our partner match form here. 2 p.m.: BBQ At the Quarry Starting at 2 p.m., we invite you to swing by for BBQ and beverages provided by our partners, Halyard Brewing Company! They use organic and fair trade ingredients to brew alcoholic ginger beer. Built on recipes that date back to the 1750s, they are reviving a pre-prohibition era ferment that is naturally gluten free, low in sugar, and absolutely delicious and we will have an assortment of their tasty brews on tap! Vegetarian and Gluten Free options will also be available. 3 p.m.: Margaret Fowler Peregrine Falcon Walk & Talk Join Margaret Fowler, Conservation Biologist for Audubon Vermont, for an interpretive talk on the amazing success story of restoring Peregrine Falcons in Vermont. Learn about peregrine natural history, the story of the species’ decline and recovery, and how you can help ensure Vermont continues to have a healthy and thriving population. Carpooling: To whatever extent you can do so safely and comfortably, given your personal comfort level with COVID-19, please carpool (Ideas: masks up & windows down; with your “pod”, with your other vaccinated friends). Doing so will be of great help to us. Please note there is no overnight parking at the Smilie School. For the love of all that is rock, do not park illegally, do not block any travel lanes, do not park anywhere on Green Mountain Drive. VolunteeringInterested in volunteering for this event or others? Health & Safety PrecautionsCOVID-19 Precautions: We ask that folks follow all safety precautions in accordance with the Vermont Universal Guidance protocols. If you have a fever or any symptoms of respiratory illness, please stay home. Please be conscientious of the fact that many folks have different comfort levels. Please bring a mask and wear it at any time you’re unable to maintain physical distance. Bugs, Water, Sun -- Take care of yourself (and each other): Make sure to bring plenty of water, sunblock, bug spray or light layers and head covers, and a first aid kit if you have one. Be sure to check yourself for ticks after the event (FYI: Lyme is serious business, learn about how to keep yourself safe here).
