By Editor, Times of San Diego May 22, 2021 San Diego County public health officials reported 64 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths Friday. Out of 12,394 tests reported to the county in the past day, 1% returned positive. That leaves the 14-day rolling average a tick lower, at 1.3%. Hospitalizations rose slightly, to 134, with 43 COVID patients requiring intensive care. The county reported four more community outbreaks for a total of 16 in the past seven days linked to 85 cases. The four outbreaks occurred in a business, a faith-based agency, a residence and a restaurant/bar. The share of locals who have received one vaccine dose is nearing 90% of the 2.1 million goal set by health officials. Meanwhile, 1.42 million are fully inoculated against the coronavirus. Since the pandemic began, there have been 279,489 cases of coronavirus in San Diego County. Officials, though, adjusted the death toll down by one Friday, to 3,748. A decedent's COVID-19 diagnosis, shown in an antigen test, could not be confirmed in a PCR test, they explained.
