Structure Maintenance Technician – Field South Florida Water Management District St Cloud, FL Job Description Performs mechanical work associated with the repair and maintenance of water control structures and gates, navigation locks, Stormwater Treatment Areas (STAs), and field station buildings and facilities. Performs overhauls on water control gates, gearboxes and small pumps. Work experience performing hydraulic maintenance, repair or installations of large hydraulic cylinders and associated controls preferred. Utilizes hand tools, power tools, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Must be able to read and follow job specifications, blueprints and diagrams to perform proper preventive maintenance of manual and automated systems. Possess skills necessary to make proper alignment of motors and mechanical systems, as well as, pressure washing and painting. Must be able to identify alignment issues of cable and sheave systems and perform corrective measures. Perform visual inspections of wire rope systems identifying any deficiencies and performing corrective measures. Utilize proper methods of applying oils and greases to machinery at predetermined intervals to supply lubrication to bearing and mechanical parts. This position requires participation in the Pumping Operations Program as either a Pump Station Assistant (PSA) or a Pump Station Operator (PSO) at any time during your employment. As a non-pump station employee, you will receive training so that you can provide assistance to the pump station crews during any pumping operations needed whether during normal work shifts, extended day or evening shifts, weekends, or holidays, etc. Both the PSA and PSO positions require intense training and mastery of controls and operations of each pump station. This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing. The St. Cloud Field Station's working hours are Monday - Thursday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Employment Guidelines High School Diploma or GED required and 2+ years of experience in structure and facility maintenance or mechanical repair. Licenses Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with a manual transmission and air brakes, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire date or placement in job. If selected candidate does not currently possess CDL, a CDL learner's permit is required at time of hire and District will provide 3 months from date of hire and/or placement in job to obtain CDL. District willing to pay cost of CDL training program. Ability to obtain and maintain certification in Forklift Operations (re-evaluation every year) and First Aid/CPR/AED (re-certification every two years). Physical Requirements/Working Environment Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions. Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipment to complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weight up to 50 pounds or more. Primarily field work in general outdoor environment with regular exposure to unpredictable weather conditions: sun, heat, and rain. Work activities typically involve the following (but not limited to): basic water skills, exposure to various water contaminants, hazardous waste products, stinging/biting insects, snakes, alligators and herbicides, walking/driving on rough terrain.
