SALEM, MA — Five Salem Academy students are being honored for their scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenships with National Junior Honor Society awards. Eighth-graders Raizel Obrero, Madeline Cruz and Eman Marashi and ninth-graders Yassmin Yousif and Madeleine Hallowes were five of only eight recipients of the awards statewide. "These five young women have demonstrated strong leadership abilities and dedication to service throughout their years at Salem Academy," said chapter advisor Kayley Miskis. Salem Academy will make a formal presentation of the awards at the moving on ceremony for eighth graders on June 23."Despite all of the challenges of the past year Salem Academy students continue to have so many impressive accomplishments," Lower School Principal Matt Chuchul said. "I am so proud to lead the Salem Academy chapter of the NJHS." "I am so proud of our ninth graders who have worked tremendously hard throughout the year," added Upper School Principal Andrea Jacobs. The award recognizes 500 exceptional NJHS students with $500 to be placed in a college savings account program managed by Ascensus as part of the New Mexico Education Trust Board's 529 college savings plan.
