OAK CREEK, WI — Oak Creek's backyard baseball team, the Milwaukee Jaguars, are kicking off their first game of the season at their Abendschien Park home field against Dousman at noon on Saturday, May 22.
The Milwaukee Jaguars are part of the amateur Land O' Lakes Baseball League and play against teams from across the Milwaukee area. The League is heading into its 100 year anniversary, marking 100 summers of home team baseball.
The league may offer a town ball feel, but rosters are often stocked with former professional league players. This season the Milwaukee Jaguars will boast two professional players, Felix Santiago and Jose Reyes.
Felix Santiago, a right-handed pitcher, was formerly drafted in the Dominican Republic by the New York Yankees while Jose Reyes was formerly drafted in the Dominican Republic by the San Francisco Giants, Jaguars Head Coach Alonso Geovony Uribe said.
Alongside these professional players, the Jaguars' roster also includes over 14 metro area college players and current Oak Creek High School players as well as alumni.
"We are the most diverse team in the league by a mile," Uribe said.
The Jaguars play against other teams from across Southeastern Wisconsin such as Sussex, Monches, Brookfield, Pewaukee, Racine and more.
Tomorrow marks the third season that the Jaguars are calling Abendschien park their home field. The game begins at 12 p.m. Saturday in Abendschien park at 1311 E Drexel Ave in Oak Creek.
