Man Pleads Guilty In May 2020 Shooting Death In Nyack

NEW CITY, NY —A Fayetteville, North Carolina man pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter charges on Thursday in a Rockland County court for his role in the shooting death of a West Haverstraw man almost exactly a year ago, according to the Rockland County District Attorney's Office. Jason Jabouin, 34, will be sentenced to 20 years in prison, with five years of post-release supervision, later in the year for a crime characterized as a class "B" violent felony. The plea stems from the events of May 22, 2020 in Nyack, when Jabouin shot 30-year-old Ryan Franklin two times in the torso, causing his death. Jabouin later fled the state, but was picked up the following day in Maryland after a traffic stop. "The events that unfolded on May 22, 2020 left many residents in the Village of Nyack in shock. In broad daylight, Mr. Jabouin committed a heinous act of violence, ruthlessly killing Ryan Franklin," said Donald Butterworth, Orangetown's police chief. "With today's plea, we are one step closer to seeing justice served." Butterworth continued: "My condolences go out to the family who lost their loved one to this nonsensical gun violence. Our goal has always been to get justice for Mr. Franklin, his family and our community and we sincerely hope this will help them in some way with their loss." Butterworth said the plea agreement was the result of work done by officers, detectives, the Rockland County DA and several other agencies that assisted in the apprehension and criminal justice proceedings. Jabouin appeared in front of Rockland County Judge Larry J. Schwartz. According to a press release, the defendant will remain remanded without bail in the Rockland County Jail. On Sept. 9, Jabouin will be officially sentenced, and he will serve his time in state prison.
