At Home Vaccines: Milwaukee County Launches Healthy Homes Program

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — Milwaukee County residents can now receive a COVID-19 vaccination at home with a new program, according to a press release from County Executive David Crowley. The Healthy Homes program will stretch across the County as a joint project between the County and local health departments. It is designed for those who have difficulty leaving their home, including those homebound from illness or because they may need physical assistance to do so. If a person needs help getting a vaccine because they are homebound or know someone else who may need help, they can register for an at-home vaccine online. Healthy Homes team members can be reached at 414-257-7468. Nationwide, approximately 6 percent of people on Medicare are homebound. That equates to about 9,500 people in Milwaukee County that face difficulty leaving home, according to the press release. "We can create healthier communities not by just making services accessible," Crowley said, "But by physically meeting residents where they are and connecting them to needed services like life-saving COVID-19 vaccines." As a part of the County's "No Wrong Door" effort, Healthy Homes will also serve as a reach-out opportunity to connect County residents to other resources that may benefit them. The County will train employees to introduce residents to other services such as housing, meals and transportation. The No Wrong Door model ensures residents will get the services and help that they need from the County- regardless of how they reach out, according to the press release.
