From the Pinellas County Government: May 20, 2021 WHAT: Historical Marker Dedication at Dansville, an historically Black community in unincorporated Largo WHEN: Saturday, May 22, at 11 a.m. WHERE: Corner of Wilcox Road and Pine Street; parking will be available through the gate, 13105 Pine St., Largo Speakers to include: Board of County Commissioners (BCC) Chair Dave Eggers BCC Vice-Chair Charlie Justice, also chairman of the Pinellas County Historic Preservation Board Wanda McCawthan, Friends of Ridgecrest David Baldwin, grandson of one the community's forefathers, Dan Henry The Pinellas County Historic Preservation Board will dedicate a Florida Historical Marker commemorating the Dansville community and its founding families at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 22. Dansville is an historic Black neighborhood that dates to 1940, when it housed citrus workers who picked, processed and packed oranges among the vast groves that once dominated Pinellas County. It is part of what's known today as the Greater Ridgecrest Area, located in unincorporated Largo, north of where Ulmerton Road curves into Walsingham Road. The Dansville Neighborhood Development Corporation has partnered with the Pinellas County Historic Preservation Board to install this Florida Historical Marker as one of several projects to help maintain Dansville's neighborhood identity and celebrate its history.
