2021 King County Elections: Here's Who Is Running For Office

RENTON, WA — Candidate filing week came to an end in King County on Friday afternoon, with hundreds of residents having formally thrown their hats in the race for public offices across the region. Dozens of city council seats are up for election across King County this year, along with plenty of mayoral contests, including in Seattle, Federal Way, Snoqualmie, Yarrow Point, Kent and Milton. The mayors of Issaquah, Auburn, Black Diamond, Duvall, Enumclaw, Hunts Point and Skykomish are running unopposed, while the mayors of Bellevue, Kirkland and Sammamish — appointed by their city councils — are seeking reelection to keep their council seats. Six candidates filed to run for King County Executive, including incumbent Dow Constantine, who seeking a fourth term. He is expected to face a formidable challenge from state Sen. Joe Nguyen (D-White Center). Perennial Puget Sound candidate Goodspaceguy also filed for the office. Metropolitan King County Councilmembers Rod Dembowski, Kathy Lambert, Reagan Dunn, Dave Upthegrove and Pete von Reichbauer are also up for election, and each drew challengers. Just a handful of smaller offices had no candidates who filed to run by the deadline: King County Fire Protection District 24: Positions 1, 2, 3 (SeaTac)King County Fire Protection District 31: Positions 2 & 3 (near Auburn)King County Water District 1: Position 3 (Yarrow Point)Skykomish School District 404: Position 4 Vashon Sewer District: Position 3 Offices that fail to draw a candidate during filing week will open for a special three-day filing period in August.
