Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States — more specifically June 19,1865, when the last slaves were freed in Texas.
With COVID-19 safety in mind, the event will take place as a vehicle caravan starting at the Thaddeus Steven College S Broad St Parking Lot.
Cars should line up beginning at 12 p.m. — with window paint or otherwise decorated — and the caravan is set to begin at 12:40.
The emancipation holiday focusing on freedom, education and achievement will be celebrated across the country amid a national reckoning on race and social justice.
Spice of Life 4th Annual Cookout is at the end of the caravan route.
