LONG VALLEY, NJ — As part of National EMS Week, Washington Township Mayor Matt Murello gave a shout-out on his Facebook Page to the Long Valley First Aid Squad, for its dedication to the community. "Thank you to the local Squad volunteers that work 24/7/365 to help us when we need you most," Murello wrote in a post. Both the mayor and the squad honed in on EMS Week's theme of "This is EMS: Caring For Our Communities." "We are proud and honored of the service we provide to this great community," Long Valley First Aid Squad expressed on its Facebook Page. Throughout the week, the squad's posts chronicled the various ways it is dedicated to Washington Township. On May 16, the First Aid Squad posted it was on standby at the Morris County Public Safety Academy while Long Valley Fire Company No. 1, Fairmont Fire Company No. 1 and Schooley's Mountain Fire Co. No. 3, were training. "We had a busy day - answering 10 calls for service, a new membership open house and a joint EMS and Rescue Services Drill with over 50 members in attendance," the squad members detailed about their day on Tuesday. On Thursday, the squad raised awareness online about "National Stop the Bleed Day," stressing to the community that "anyone can save a life with proper training and equipment." The squad stated it carries various tourniquets, combat dressings, chest seals and hemostatic agents in its vehicles. "Long Valley First Aid Squad's members are trained in modern bleeding control techniques and recently saved a life with the proper application of a tourniquet following a traumatic injury and entrapment," they wrote.
