HOBOKEN, NJ — A 31-year-old Jersey City man is facing drunk driving charges after police saw him driving the wrong way past their headquarters Thursday morning, authorities said. Police say that shortly after 1 a.m., Officer Joshua Campoverde was standing outside of police headquarters between Second and Hudson streets when he observed a Jeep Cherokee head the wrong way on Hudson Street. Campoverde got into his vehicle, caught up to the driver, and conducted a motor vehicle stop, police said. While speaking to the driver, Campoverde "suspected [the driver] was under the influence of an intoxicant, according to police. Shortly afterward, officers Ricky Truppner, Anthony Olivera, and Harry Montalvo arrived. They administered a standardized field sobriety test and determined that the driver was unable to safely operate a motor vehicle. The man, Jeffrey Masucci, 31, from Jersey City, was arrested. While being processed at headquarters, he refused to submit to chemical breath testing, police said. Masucci was charged with DWI and also received motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, wrong way on a one way, unregistered vehicle, and failure to exhibit documents, police said. He was released to a responsible party.
