Press release from the City of Palo Alto: May 20, 2021 Starting on May 29 at 8 p.m. through May 30 at 11 a.m., Caltrans will perform an overnight closure of US-101, from San Antonio Road to Embarcadero Road to allow City contractors to install a 107-foot long prefabricated bridge section over the freeway. A partial lane closure of US-101 will begin on Saturday, May 29 at 8 p.m. and the freeway will be fully closed in northbound and southbound directions between San Antonio Road and Embarcadero Road on Sunday, May 30 from 1:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Limited lanes will be reopened in both northbound and southbound US-101 on Sunday, May 30 from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and all lanes will be opened by 11:00 a.m. The freeway closure will not require any closure of Palo Alto roads or streets. The following detour will be in effect during the full freeway closure: Northbound US-101 DetourĀ Exit at San Antonio Road Make a right onto San Antonio At the signal make a left onto East Bayshore Road and continue towards Embarcadero Road Make a left at Embarcadero and then right into the NB 101 on-ramp Exit at Embarcadero / Oregon Expressway Stick left and continue on the Oregon Expressway off ramp and then onto Oregon Expressway Make a left at the first signal to West Bayshore Road Continue onto West Bayshore Road which becomes Fabian Way all the way to East Charleston Road Make a left onto East Charleston Road and continue straight (crossing San Antonio Road) to the SB 101 on-ramp The bridge segments across East and West Bayshore Roads were installed in the end of April. This middle segment will connect the two side segments. Environmental assessment and project design were completed in late 2017 and early 2019, respectively. Caltrans approved the right-of-way certification, encroachment permit, and Authorization to Proceed in 2019. On November 18, 2019, Council approved the construction contract for the project.
