We are looking to expand our volunteer team of garden lovers who organically maintain the historic four season gardens surrounding Celia’s House in Holmes Park House. The overall purpose of the hospice house garden is to provide a quiet, lovely natural setting for dying residents and their grieving loved ones. The House was originally built in 1939 for Harry Holmes, co-founder of Harry & David, and is surrounded by 2 acres of verdant serene gardens. The gardens include many unusual species that were planted amongst the native trees on the property. Volunteers gather on Wednesday and Saturday mornings starting at 9:00. No experience necessary. When asked why she enjoys volunteering here, one garden volunteer replied, “The Master Gardeners on the team bring back new information and learning opportunities. I’m continually learning something new about gardening and the plants in the Celia’s House garden. I feel good about being helpful and using my skills to better the community while volunteering with interesting people. And it’s fun! I listen to the acorn woodpeckers and feel that Mother Nature is smiling on me.”
