FRANKFORT, IL — One incumbent and three newcomer candidates are projected to win the Summit Hill District 161 Board of Education election, according to Tuesday's unofficial results. The projected winners are: Katie Campbell, incumbent James Martin, Stefanie McCleish and Amy Berk. The race was a crowded one, with eight candidates running for four open board positions. You can find the unofficial results below: Tuesday's election results are unofficial until certified by the county on April 27. Provisional Ballots cast on Election Day and all late Vote By Mail Ballots postmarked by Election Day will be counted at Provisional Count on April 20, according to the county clerk's office. 14 out of 14 precincts reporting: John Wade - 829Katie Campbell - 1,087James Martin - 1,019Joy Murphy - 955Stefanie McCleish - 1,081Richard Ward - 750Amy Berk - 983John Lettiere - 771 Murphy and Martin are current board members. Wade, Campbell, Martin and Murphy ran as Unified, Candidates for Summit Hill 161. On the group's Facebook page, they state, "If you're tired of the negative our district receives as a result of the behavior of a few, then we are your candidates." McCleish is a teacher, and believed the pandemic remains the most pressing issue for the district, as well as the search for a new superintendent. Ward is an engineer, and was a previous member of the board. He believed the most pressing issue facing the district is teaching the children. Berk is a teacher, and believed the pandemic is also the most pressing issue facing the district, followed by student growth. Lettiere is also a teacher, and believed the "downward trend in student achievement data," is the most pressing issue facing the board.
