CORNELIUS, NC — A Cornelius woman who volunteered as a coach at a Mooresville school was arrested and charged with numerous sex crimes after she was accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a student under the age of 15, the Cornelius Police Department said Friday.
Ayana Chabaya Walcott, 27, was arrested May 18 at her home in Cornelius.
According to CPD, they received a report April 15 from the Mooresville Police Department about a possible sexual relationship between Walcott and a student that occurred in Cornelius.
"After further investigation, Cornelius Detectives were able to secure warrants on Walcott for five felony counts of sexual act with a student and five felony counts of statutory rape with a child under 15," CPD said.
Following her arrest Tuesday, Walcott was transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail, CPD said.
