Hey party people! Welcome back to Duluth Daily Digest, where you can find all you need to know about happenings and news from around town! My name is Lyndsay Oxley, and I have lived in the District at Duluth for about three years now. If you recognize my name and face, it is probably because you've seen me around Parson's Alley at Good Word Brewing. I am there every weekend serving tables, while during the week I am an ESOL teacher at Radloff Middle School. I love everything about Duluth- everything from the diversity, great food and drinks, and the warming culture. I hope that I can continue to keep you reading every day, and if you enjoy reading it, please tell your friends! In today's issue, you will hear about restaurant inspection scores, Nicole Love Hendrickson's new Equity Plan, and all of tonight's happenings in town. Today's weather: Today will be warm with a high of 86 and a low of 62. You can expect only a 5% chance of rain, so you will not need to pack an umbrella for tonight's outing. Here are the top 5 news stories from Duluth today: 1) Headed out this weekend for a bite to eat? Here are the restaurant inspection scores from this week. All schools, along with Tropical Smoothie Cafe, all got a 100 while Uptopia Bar had the lowest score with an 80. (GRAPH) 2) People crowd the board of education without masks during the monthly board meeting to protest the mask mandate at all schools. Board member, Steve Knudsen, sided with the protesters by taking his own mask off and proclaiming, "I don't want to wear this mask!" while board member, Everton Blair, told the crowd to wear a mask or get out. This incident comes after a Gwinnett County mother makes headlines bringing the same issue to the board in a personal statement about her daughter. (AJC) 3) Chairwoman, Nicole Love Hendrickson, has announced new equity plans for Gwinnett Place Mall. The equity plan focuses on Gwinnett's diversity and outlines steps in which the community could become more welcoming and inclusive to all genders, races, and cultures. (Gwinnett Daily Post) 4) Gwinnett County sees an increase in burglaries of Asian American homes and cars. This comes amidst a terrible uproar of support for the Asian American community in Duluth because of the shooting of two Asian women in Woodstock. (Fox 5) 5) Gwinnett County Public Schools will be offering a summer meal program for students at 25 different locations across the county. Starting June 1st, all families who have a student enrolled in GCPS can pick their free meals up between the hours of 11 a.m and 1 p.m. (Gwinnett Daily Post) And now, tonight's events: 1) Duluth Spring Arts Festival-The Duluth Spring Arts Festival is happening all weekend starting today. All festivities will be taking place between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Come out and support your artistic neighbors! 2) Jazz at Bravo! 7p.m.- Ya like Jazz? There is a jazz night at Bravo! Venue starting at 7 p.m. 3)Princess Tiana at Hello Rainbow 2-3- Do you have a child who loves Princess Tiana from Princess and the Frog? Peace, Lyndsay Oxley About me: I grew up on the Florida-Georgia Line, and moved to the metro area when I went to college at Kennesaw State University. When I graduated, I became a teacher, server, and friend to everyone around me. You can always find me around downtown Duluth grabbing the best grub or hanging out with friends.
