TEMPE, AZ — Longtime professional golfer and Arizona State University alumnus Phil Mickelson is in the hunt for his sixth major championship.
The 50-year-old lefty is currently leading the PGA Championship, at five-under par, through 36 holes of the tournament.
This event, which is being held at the Kiawah Island Ocean Course in South Carolina, is one of the tour's four "majors," along with the Masters Tournament, the U.S. Open and the Open Championship in the United Kingdom.
Mickelson last won a major championship in 2013, capturing his first Open Championship at Muirfield in Scotland.
Mickelson previously won the PGA Championship in 2005, in addition to winning the Masters three times.
The one-time Sun Devil currently has a two stroke lead over seven golfers, while fellow ASU alum Jon Rahm is currently tied for 55th, at three over par.
The left-handed golfer last won a PGA event in 2019, when he captured the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am title. In total, Mickelson has won 44 times on the tour, dating back to 1991.
